Footscray returned to the winners list, while Williamstown fell short in the Victorian Football League at the weekend.

The Bulldogs, who have had a mixed season, faced Sandringham, which was hoping to keep in touch with the top eight.

The Bulldogs led by four points at quarter time and then three points at half time, in a low scoring start to the match.

The Bulldogs blew open the game in the third quarter, kicking 5.6 to 1.1 to lead by 32 points at three quarter time.

With the match in their control, the Bulldogs finished it off in the last quarter to get a 13.18 (96)-6.6 (42) win.

Josh Bruce in his second game back from a serious knee injury kicked 4.5 to push his case for a recall to the senior side.

Joel Garner and Lachlan McNeil kicked two goals each.

Lachlan Sullivan had plenty of the ball with 34 possessions, while Toby McLean, another pushing for an AFL recall, had 27 disposals and Ewan Macpherson had 22.

The win was the Bulldogs sixth of the season and moves them up to 13th on the ladder. They sit two games and percentage outside the top eight.

Meanwhile, Williamstown’s winning streak ended at one as it fell short against fourth placed Greater Western Sydney.

Coming off their second win of the season, the Seagulls led at quarter time by seven points, having had two more scoring shots than the Giants.

Three goals to two in the second quarter gave the Giants a two point lead at the main break.

The Giants opened up a bit of lead in the third quarter with four goals to two and led by 23 points early in the last quarter.

The Seagulls had plenty of ball in their front half early in the last quarter, but hadn’t been able to convert.

They were able to reduce the margin to 13 points late in the final quarter, but ran out of time, losing 11.16 (82)-9.10 (64).

Liam Conway was the only multiple goal kicker for the Seagulls with two goals.

Nick Mellington had 27 possessions, while Liam Hunt had 25 possessions.

The Seagulls remain second bottom with two wins.
