Seddon is hoping to turn its competitive form into more wins in the second part of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association Isaacs Howarth Shield season.
The Dockers have made big strides forward this season but with a close competition sit in ninth spot.
Just nine points separate them and the top teams, with only Altona Roosters out of finals contention at the Christmas break.
President Leigh Davies said there had been some really positive signs this season.
“It would have been great to get some more wins before Christmas,” he said.
“It’s been a stop-start season and there’s some matches that we could have won.
“We want to make finals.
“We have been more than competitive.”
The Dockers are hoping to kick start the second part of their season with victory against Footscray United.
Batting first on day one on Saturday after winning the toss, the Dockers made 8-295 from their overs.
Davies said they were really happy with that total with contributions throughout.
Veteran Ashley Hudson scored 74, while Joe Walker and Jacob Slator both scored half centuries as well.
Frank Hoang took four wickets for the Bulldogs.
Davies said their internationals, who have had good seasons, had really bought into the club on and off the field.
Now with hopefully plenty of two-day cricket ahead of them, the Dockers are hoping to put some more wins on the board.
“We are a better two-day side,” Davies said. “We have players who can play long innings and bowl long spells.
“We got a guy from sub-district cricket, Ross [Suri] and he is suited more to two-day cricket.”
Davies said things were going well throughout the club.
The club will host a community day on 25 January.
The day will include an all abilities match and cricket run activities and competitions across the day.
There will also be a cricket masterclass held.
Davies said they were hoping to get the community down and involved and make a big day of it.
In other matches, the Druids have a run chase on their hands against Sunshine United.
Sunshine made 9-332 before declaring to bowl a few overs late in the day.
The Druids will resume at 0-17 after getting through three overs unscathed.
Altona Roosters are on top in their match with Maribyrnong Park St Marys.
The Roosters made 242 before being bowled out in the 74th over.
Captain Ashleigh Peters top scored with 43.
The Lions had three overs to face at the end of day one and lost 2-9 to put the Roosters on top.
Dishnaka Manoj has both wickets.
Meanwhile in the Steve McNamara Shield, Williamstown Imperials put on a show against Tullamarine as they make 435.
Williamstown CYMS is just 10 runs from conceding first innings points against Grand United, Newport-Digman and Gellibrand’s matc is evenly poised, while Sunbury is on top of West Newport.
