It was a goal feast in state league 1 of the Football Federation Victoria at the weekend, with an average of 4.5 goals a game in the six round 9 games.

Altona Magic played its part in a 4-1 road win over Keilor Park at Keilor Park Reserve on Saturday.

The Magic, who boast the most potent strike force in the division, eclipsed their three-goals-per-game average with a double from Jon McShane and one each from Jason Hayne and new recruit Daniel Visevic.

It was the perfect start to life at Paisley Park for Visevic, who came off the bench to cap off a week in which he was signed by the Magic after the departure of Marino Gasparis to NPL club Pascoe Vale.

There were goals aplenty for Altona East Phoenix and Yarraville Glory. Unfortunately, both of those sides were leaky in defence and were beaten.

The Phoenix lost 5-3 to Westgate, while the Glory went down 3-2 to Banyule City.

Altona City arrested its slide in state league 2, beating Essendon United 2-1 at JH Allan Reserve in what most would consider a surprise result given the contrasting form lines.

Williamstown came from a goal down at half-time to beat Lalor United 4-2 in men’s state league 3 to keep the second-placed Blues in hot pursuit of leader Geelong Rangers.

Melbourne City had a day it would rather forget, belted 5-0 by Westvale on home soil at Edwards Reserve.

Maribyrnong Greens had a similar sick feeling in state league 4, losing 5-0 to Spring Hills.

But it was better news for Altona North, which moved out of the relegation zone with a gutsy 2-1 win at Balmoral.

In the women’s leagues, Yarraville Glory lost its middle-of-the-ladder state league 2 tussle with La Trobe University 5-3, despite a hat-trick from Sarah Lovett.

The state league 3 title race is hotting up with the top four, which includes Maidstone United, Altona Magic and Maribyrnong Swifts, separated by just two points.

Maidstone’s 2-1 win over Magic came courtesy of goals from Amanda Kezovska and Effie Noulas, while the Swifts’ 4-1 drubbing of St Albans saw Anja Boyens, Matilda Myers, Anna Pereyra and Elena Pereyra on the scoresheet.
