South Morang cap off big day with a win

South Morang celebrated Wayne Pavitt’s 300th game in style with a 37-point win against Epping in Northern Football League division 3.

The Lions jumped out of the blocks early kicking the only three goals in the first quarter, before an even second and third quarter. They led by 25 points at the last change.

The game opened up a little in the last with both sides having their best quarters on the scoreboard, with the Lions extending the lead to win 16.14 (110)-10.13 (73).

Matthew Trim and Luke Shelton kicked three goals each for the Lions. Pavitt. a South Morang junior , kicked two goals, taking his career tally to 767.

As well as his time at South Morang, he played a few years in division 1 games and had a short stint in the bush.

For the Pingers, Michael Robertson was best on ground.

The result has helped South Morang cement its top two spot, while the Pingers sit in sixth spot, a game outside the top four.

Mernda had a bye.

In division 1, Bundoora suffered its second loss of the season, falling to Northcote Park 15.14 (104)-13.11 (89).

A loss to Eltham leaves Whittlesea sitting on the bottom of the ladder. The Eagles are one of four teams from seventh to 10th with two wins.

In division 2, Thomastown made it two wins in a row, with a 21.22 (148)-9.15 (69) win against Panton Hill.

Lalor had a tough day out with, North Heidelberg smashing them 31.13 (199)-3.6 (24).
