More than half the Western Region Football League division 2 team of the year has come from the two grand finalists.
The league announced three teams of the year in the lead up to each of those three divisions grand finals.
In the division 2 men’s competition, seven players came from minor premiers Point Cook Centrals.
Centrals had a player on every line of the ground but one, while first year coach Dean Chambers was named coach of the year after an undefeated regular season.
There were five Parkside players named in the team, led by Shaun Campbell, who was named captain of the team of the year.
There were two players named from each of Wyndhamvale, Newport, North Footscray, Glen Orden and Albion.
West Footscray, which didn’t win a game, was the only team not represented.
The women’s division 1 team of the year was headlined by 11 players combined from the two grand finalists.
The backline was filled with three Spotswood players, with five Wolves players picked overall.
Caroline Springs had the most players, with six players selected in the team. Half of those in the forward line.
Lakers coach Dean Ellis was named coach of the year in division 1.
Players from all six clubs are represented in the team. Manor Lakes’ Jaimi Paten was named captain of the side.
Leading goal kicker Larissa Renaut was named at centre half forward with Caitlin Pretty named at full forward.
In the women’s division 2 competition, Point Cook Centrals led the way with seven players named in the team of the year.
All eight teams were represented, with the leading goal kicker Mandy Seath named at full forward.
Centrals’ coach Leanna Meyer was named team of the year. West Footscray’s Kathleen Gannon was named captain of the team.
