Bowls Victoria: A’s dismantle Bombers

ALTONA sent a warning shot to the rest of the Bowls Victoria premier division with a total dismantling of Essendon.

The A’s have finished the back end of the first round of matches on a three-game winning streak and are close to full throttle in the run-in to Christmas.

They buried the Bombers 91-65 at Civic Parade on Saturday to claim all 18 points in their most complete performance of the season to date.

“It was our first 18 of the year,” A’s coach Brett Dodd told the Weekly.

“It’s all clicking together at the right time. We’ve definitely still got some improvement in us consistency wise.”

The A’s had the brooms out as they swept through the Bombers to win all rinks.

The gutsiest win of the day came from the Brad Peck rink, who came back from 10 shots down late to claim the two points.

“They kept fighting on,” Dodd praised.

“They hit the front with two ends to go.

“This is a close competition and two points at the end of the year could be massive.”

The sizzling form of Brenton Coad’s rink showed no signs of abating.

The largely young crew of Coad, Ben Loughlin, Farris Derrij and Brett Foley had a massive 30-16 win.

“They’ve been monstering teams this year,” Dodd said.

Dodd was content with his rink’s 19-13 win, and David Zitter made it four from four with a 20-17 victory.

The A’s will have payback on their minds when facing their first return match of the season against Clayton at home on Saturday.

“They’ll get a bit of a shock; we’re a different side to the one we were earlier in the year,” Dodd said.
