WDCA: Bulls deliver one-two blow to arch rival Williamstown

WEST Newport has repeated the dose over Williamstown Imperials in the Williamstown and District Cricket Association A1 turf grand final rematch.

The Bulls were too strong in the biggest game last summer, and little had changed nine months down the track.

They remain the last unbeaten side in the WDCA’s top flight and moved to the top of the ladder with Saturday’s 43-run win at Fearon Reserve.

The Bulls blasted 229 off 77.4 overs. Opener Josh Eason-Jones was outstanding with 71, but a feature for the winners was their spread of runs across the board.

For Eason-Jones, it was the continuation of a fine start to the summer, which has seen him record half centuries in each of his past three knocks.

Skipper Matt Shiell added 39 and Chris Irving 28 not out.

Irving was particularly damaging with the ball, taking 4-29 off 16 overs.

Again, the Bulls spread the wickets around, with all six bowlers claiming a scalp. — Lance Jenkinson
