ONE of the most popular events in the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival — the Rickshaw Run in Footscray — will be back for a third year next month.
Kicking off with live oysters eaten on the street, the “five-course frenzy” foodie tour will include tips from experts on how to make rice-paper rolls and a visit to the bustling Little Saigon market.
Footscray Traders Association president Ben Coyle says there’s always a buzz around the running of the rickshaws through Footscray streets. “It’s a good social event and gets people talking about the area.”
The first year brought about 300 people to Footscray, with 450 turning up last year.
The event relies on the help of volunteers to pull the rickshaws, meet and greet diners at each destination and provide marshalling support. Volunteers will get a free T-shirt and finish the night with a free meal.
“We found people who joined in last year would come back for a second go,” Mr Coyle said. “They seem to have a lot of fun.”
The Rickshaw Run is from March 1-11.
