Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong readers of all ages have been dreaming with their eyes open as part of the 2022 Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week celebrations.

Libraries have been celebrating imaginative characters and vivid worlds from Saturday, August 20 with celebrations closing on Friday, August 26.

Hobsons Bay mayor Peter Hemphill said one of his favourite books was ‘Grant’, which chronicles the life of Ulysses S. Grant, the Union General who won the American Civil War for President Abraham Lincoln in 1865.

Maribyrnong mayor Anthony Tran said local libraries have been a key part in encouraging children to foster their love of reading.

Reading is such an important skill that supports a child’s development and creativity throughout their life, which is why local libraries, which provide the opportunity to support reading, are such an important part of our community,” he said.
