The Western Bulldogs community foundation ‘Sons of the West’ program is back, bringing men of all ages together to learn about health and wellbeing.

In partnership with local councils and community health services across Victoria, ‘Sons of the West’ is a free 10-week health program for men, and is back bigger and better than ever in 2002 after being interrupted for two years by COVID-19.

The program is set to kick off in March at locations across the West of Melbourne and Victoria, with sessions set to be taking place across different days and times at locations including Footscray, Braybrook, Newport, St Albans and Sunbury, as well as an online option for those who prefer to join from the comfort of their own homes.

‘Sons of the West’ aim is to use the power of sport to teach men about a range of health topics such as nutrition, mental health, gender equity and masculinity.

Guided by experts, men will be able to get active with a range of exercises to meet everyone’s fitness levels.

The program also acts as a great way for men to get connected within the local community, meet new people and make connections.

Community and government relations manager at the Western Bulldogs Kashif Bouns said the program sees many incredible social and health outcomes each year.

“I encourage any man of any age to take the plunge and get involved. Bring a friend, brother, father or uncle and follow in the footsteps of thousands of men from across the West who have already benefited from the diverse range of sessions,” he said.

Maribyrnong Mayor Anthony Tran said council is proud to once again support the Sons of the West program.

“As we get closer to the 2022 program beginning in March, I encourage you to jump in and take part in the program. There are a range of great health benefits that come from it – not just for your physical health, but your mental health too which is just as important.”

‘Sons of the West’ is open to all men aged over 18 years old, with registrations still open to join the program this year.
