Hobsons Bay E-Bike action

Hobsons Bay police have announced a crackdown on illegal E-Bikes in the area.

Highway Patrol officers will now seize dangerous and illegal E-Bikes which will then be forfeited at court and not returned to the owners.

On the Hobsons Bay Eyewatch Facebook page, police said hoons speeding and driving recklessly on E-bikes have been an ongoing problem in the inner west, with numerous incidents of riders pull monos at high speed, baiting police and vandalising public spaces.

In order to curb this behaviour, police are not just seizing illegal E-Bikes, but are also urging parents to be careful when purchasing them for their children and to ensure that they’re legal and not overpowered.

Police said parents should also make sure they are purchasing an E-Bike, not an electric motorcycle without pedals, and that their child has appropriate safety gear and is responsible enough to be riding on the road.

Anyone who witnesses E-Bike riders driving dangerously or harassing people, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
